23rd Psalm Therapy
By: Norman Vincent Peale
· Read and deeply meditate on the meaning of this Psalm five times a day for 7 days.
· Do it 1) upon arising, 2) after breakfast, 3) after lunch, 4) after dinner, and 5) before retiring.
· A) Read it first, B) speak each of the concepts of the 23rd Psalm so as to put
yourself inside of the truth it reflects, C) speak how it corresponds to your life,
and then D) embellish it.
1. The lord is my shepherd I shall not want. God shall supply all your needs, Phil 4:19. With that faith we can work today without worrying about tomorrow.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. After hard work, the sheep lie down and rest and digest.
3. He leadeth me beside the still waters. Sheep will not drink from disturbed waters. The Shepard finds a quiet place for them.
4. He restoreth my soul. Sheep take their place in line and keep it. Sometime during the day the sheep trots over to the shepherd, who rubs it and speaks reassuring words in its ears. It returns to its place renewed.
5. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s Sake. The sheep has poor eyes. The shepherd leads the sheep on safe paths.
6. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Don’t worry, god is with me, and there is power in his presence.
7. Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. The shepherd’s rod was a weapon that could kill a bear or lion, the shepherd’s staff had a crook in it that could pull a fallen sheep off the side of a cliff.
8. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. The shepherd pulled the poisonous plants from the pasture and made it safe to eat.
9. Thou annointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. When the sheep returned, the shepherd examined each one, applied oil to wounds, and gave a cup of cool water to it.
10. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. Visualize a blank screen of the mind for a moment, flash a picture of what you want to create on it. Take the picture down and make the mind blank, and then flash the picture on it again and again until the picture becomes clear and sharp.
11. And I will dwell in the house of the lord forever. “My mind is beyond the river that hath no bridge,” from Pilgrim’s Progress. John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”
